[Frame Info: Trance (2013) Directed by Danny Boyle. Cinematography by Anthony Dod Mantle – IMDb]

The most obvious compositional element in this frame would have to be the use of reflections. The movie is filled with them. In context, if I remember correctly, this symbolizes the scattered memories and forgotten identities the comprises the themes of this movie. But not just reflections, there are mirrors, distortions, and other use of surfaces to play throughout.

The color palette is light and airy which makes sense for a happy memory, and the placement where the reflections begin is almost symmetrical which gives the subtexts of these two characters having different realities. Different identities. What was, to what is.

Or that’s what I’m getting at least.
